Our annual Trail-a-Thon is the riders’ once-a-year opportunity to ride their horses
in the great Colorado outdoors. The horses are transported to a wildlife area called
Bobcat Ridge. Just as in classes, volunteers assist the riders in mounting, then
lead the horses and walk along side on a winding trail through the foothills. The
Larimer County Mounted Sheriff’s Patrol accompanies the riders to keep the trail
clear. After the trail rides, volunteers serve everyone a BBQ lunch. Donations are
accepted to help F.R.E.E. offset expenses.
About 90 riders and volunteers took part in this year’s event on a beautiful September
day. ‘Smokey the Bear’ was present to remind everyone of the dangers of wildfires,
which had recently caused so much damage in Colorado.
We wish to thank everyone who made the event a success. In addition to the volunteers
and riders’ families, we are grateful to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Posse, ‘Smokey’,
Rick Butler, the Magician, and all the people who donated financially or in-kind.
