"I gave this much thought after watching your program, and thinking on horses in
general. After 4,000 years mankind is still fascinated with horses. At one time
our relationship was one of necessity-our mode of transport. Yet in the age of
machines, many believed horses would be a thing of the past. Today more people
own and enjoy horses than at the turn of the century. Why is this?
Watching the disabled riders in your program really made me
think on this, and what I saw was the freedom of movement the horses gave to
these individuals. Maybe this is the special attraction horses have for us, the
ability to raise us beyond our own limitations.
Free in movement but also in dignity, strength
and honesty-
to aspire to be greater than what we are.
This is what I hoped to represent in this painting. I hope you
enjoy it. I've titled it "Free"."
